TWO CHILDREN

When she was twenty-six, Carrie married Ewart McKellen on 9th April 1920 at Union Chapel in Chorlton, Manchester. Ewart was twenty-seven and lived at 104 Heath Bank Road, Cheadle Hulme at the time. Ewart was a cotton importer and later an accountant (like his father). Carrie lived with her family at “Edale” and they had group wedding photographs taken by their front door. On their registration, Ivor McKellen and Alice Aldous signed as witnesses.

The 1911 census of the McKellen household, reveals that Ewart (age 24) was born in Manchester and his mother Hannah McKellen (age 58) was born in Predfordshire and his father William Henry McKellen (age 76) was born in Antrim. His younger brother Ivar (age 18) was born in Limperley, Cheshire. Ewart's father was a retired accountant and Ewart worked as a statistical clerk. His parents had been married for 39 years and had a total of eleven children with nine surviving children.

Carrie and Ewart lived in Chinley and had two children, Anne Maureen (born 22nd November 1923) and Patrick Ewart (born 26th February 1926).

Carrie helped out at Fred Aldous Ltd when the company was at Nicolas Croft (after 1936).

Carrie’s father (Fred Aldous I) lived with her before he died in 1936. Dot remembers seeing her grandfather there in bed.

Carrie moved to “Woodlea”, Buxton Road, High Lane and her sister, Alice, looked after her when she was unwell. Carrie died 25 July 1948 from cancer at age fifty-four.
