George Aldous was the eldest of three sons born to Caroline Aldous. His brothers were John William and Frederick. He was born in 1852 in Stepney, Middlesex but lived most of his life in the Hayfield district, Derbyshire, where his mother brought all three boys when she left London.
At the time of the Hadfield Padfield 1861 Census (near Glossop), George is listed as a sweeper although he was
only nine years old. Later, he worked in a cotton mill in the district. He married Martha (born 1850/1851 Yorkshire) in 1880 and had two sons, Arthur Aldous (1882-1917) and George Aldous (1888-1954).

George and Martha Aldous had two sons: Arthur born in 1882 in Glossop and George in 1888 in Hayfield. At the time of the 1901 census, the Aldous family lived at 89 Platt Street in Glossop. George was fifty and Martha was also fifty, Arthur was eighteen and George eleven. It lists George's occupation as a cotton miller in a cotton mill.
Arthur Aldous, the elder son, was born in Glossop in 1882. He worked as a salesman for his Uncle Fred (FA I) and with his cousin Fred (FA II). In 1914, Arthur married a lady called Fanny Mayhew and only four years later died of wounds in 1917. He was in the Regiment of Artillery in the First World War. There is a plaque in Padfield Chapel commemorating those who lost their lives in the 1914-1918 war and Arthur's name is there at the top. It was a bitter blow to his relations. His cousin Fred felt the loss very deeply - not only had he lost a close relative, but a valuable member of the Firm, and a very good friend besides.
George's second son was called after his father. George Aldous (II) was born in 1888 and married in 1914 in Glossop, a lady called Edith Ward. They had one son in 1916 and they called him Arthur William (1916-1973). He married Catherine Lockhart (Cath) in 1947, in Scotland. Auntie Freda met, and was very friendly with, Cath Aldous. She lived in Hadfield and attended the Chapel in Padfield. Her husband, Arthur William, died in 1973 (aged only 57) but he was able to see their two daughters (Kathleen and Evelyn) each married to a good man. Kathleen married Thomas Woodhead and they have two sons, Steven and David. Evelyn married Ray Catterall and they have two daughters, Susan and Lynn. All of them attend and support the Chapel.
